2024-2025 Highlights
The latest edition of Genium360's annual compensation survey found that the average base salary of engineering professionals rose by 3.2% between 2023 and 2024, to $127,314. While this represents a significant increase, the percentage dropped by almost half compared to last year, when wages rose by 6.1%. In Québec, the consumer price index for the same period rose by 4.5%, meaning that the purchasing power of engineering professionals declined slightly.
The Labour Market Report, a survey of engineering executives, shows that after several years of unbridled growth, the market is tending to stabilize. Overall, 61% of business leaders surveyed indicated that their revenues in the past year were up over the previous year, with 16% experiencing strong growth and 45% moderate growth. While this result is generally appreciable, it nonetheless represents a net decrease of 9 percentage points compared to 2023 results. This subtle slowdown, which may be largely attributable to rising interest rates, has also resulted in a slight decrease in hiring.
